The Sailing Life and Adventures of John Casey

The Cirrus R Has Arrived

Last weekend the Cirrus R debuted at the Tradewinds regatta with Bret and Kenny earning a second place, throwing a 4 and ending with a bullet. They told me how it sailed on Saturday and we made some small adjustments and their performance shot up on Sunday. When I asked Bret how it sailed he said, “It’s like we were on a whole different boat than anybody else, especially downwind where we were lower and faster!” Dalton and I start training on Sunday on the road to F18 Worlds in September 2012.

  1. Thanks Jon! In past articles I’ve definitely credited Bob Buzzelli. I remember Eric Maklin earning the Bob Buzelli sportsmanship trophy this year. He really teared up when he accepted it, which really showed what the man meant to so many people. I have the same dream as the kids of SYSP, and I hope to work on that goal together.

Great article and congratulations to the SYSP. It’s very exciting to see them catching on to fast sailing. You can also credit Bob Buzzelli for influencing the team as he did donate two of the fastest multihulls around to the ysp as well as a boatload of cash to help establish a multihull team. I would love to use some of that cash to help the team reach their olympic dream.

Thats a sexy boat right there.

Such tiny castings! I don’t know if I’d trust those in a surf launch or not :P
